Description
An early member of the Bauhaus (1924), Swiss-born, Schawinsky moved to Milan in 1933 where he collaborated with Antonio Boggeri at the newly opened Studio Boggeri. This Olivetti catalog and trademark is a remarkable example of Schawinsky’s advanced use of layout, photography and color and reinforces his important role in disseminating modernist ideas. In 1936, he left Milan for the United States and teamed up with Josef Albers to teach at Black Mountain College.
