A year before completing his legendary jacket designs for the New Directions, New Classic Series (1944-1953), modern design pioneer Alvin Lustig designed this silk-screened, hand-lettered cover while serving on the editorial committee of the AIGA Journal. “This ability to ‘see’ freshly, unencumbered by preconceived verbal, literary or moral ideas, is the first step in responding to most modern art.” (AIGA Journal, Vol. 3 No. 4, 1953).
