Industrial Design Centre (IDC), Bombay, India, 11.25 x 8.5", 294 pp., English
An uncommon, important publication. Published on the occasion of the International Seminar "Design Education: Ulm and After" (Bombay, India), this important title republishes select articles from the Ulm School of Design Journals (1958–1968), one of the most influential design schools in the 2nd half of the century. "We feel, the material in the Ulm volumes should form part of the essential reading of all designers – it is too important to be forgotten or ignored." — Kirti Trivedi.
41 articles are reproduced in three sections: Issues (i.e. Philosophy of HfG), Theory (i.e. Design Methodology) and Opinions (i.e. Comments and Reviews) including: Tomas Maldonado, Hans Gugelot, Gui Bonsiepe, Otl Aicher, Martin Krampen, Anthony Froshaug, Josef Albers and more.
"... printed by xerox offset process [from the xerox copy of the original set held at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad – the only original set in India] using paper masters for reasons of cost. While the text was typeset again, the illustrations had to be xeroxed twice for reproduction in this form, so a lot of details have been lost." Near fine with a tear to one page in a near fine jacket with a small tear near the back top.
